How to Successfully Handle Your Acuvue® Contacts

How to Apply the Lenses

  1. Wash and rinse your hands thoroughly, and dry completely with a lint-free towel.
  2. Start with your right eye.
  3. Remove the lens from the package and gently shake off excess solution.
  4. Place the lens on the tip of your right forefinger and allow it to dry slightly (about 5 seconds).
  5. Hold the lens up above eye level (Fig 1), and check the outer edge from the side to find the special mark* that tells you if the lens is inside out:
  • ACUVUE 2 BRAND CONTACT LENSES and ACUVUE BRAND BIFOCAL CONTACT LENSES have a "123" mark. If the mark reads "123," the lens is positioned correctly (Fig 2).
  • If the mark reads the lens is inside out, and you need to flip it over before you put it on the eye (Fig 3).
  1. Keeping the lens on your right forefinger, put down the lower lid with the middle finger of your right hand. Ii necessary also use the forefinger or middle finger of your left hand to lift the upper eyelid (Fig 4).
  2. Gently place the lens on the white of the eye. You do not need to press it on. You do not need to press on it.
  3. Continue to hold the lids in position while looking down. Slowly release the lids and blink. The lens will center automatically.
  4. If the lens is not centered, close your eyelids and gently massage the lens into place through the closed lids (Fig 5).
  5. Repeat steps 3 through 9 for your left eye.

How to Remove the Lenses

  1. Wash and rinse your hands thoroughly, and dry completely with a lint-free towel.
  2. Look up; slide the lens to the lower part of the eye using the forefinger (be sure not to blink or the lens will center again).
  3. Gently pinch the lens between the thumb and forefinger.
  4. Remove the lens.
