Shadow Mountain Surgical Center, housed within the
Buzard Eye Institute, has recently received its Medicare certification. This
means that the facility will now be available to physicians who wish to make use of
it. This surgical center utilizes the very latest tried and trusted technology
to provide state-of-the-art surgery facilities and un-compromised patient care.
VISX Star S-3 Excimer Laser System
One
of
the most impressive features of the Buzard Eye
Institute is the vast array of specialized technology available at our
facility. This instrumentation is often expensive, delicate and requires special maintenance to operate at peak
accuracy. For example, Dr. Buzard recently acquired the latest VISX Star
S-3 Excimer Laser system. By providing these instruments both alone and in conjunction with
other specialized instruments in a sterile environment we have created a unique
environment for comfortable, safe and precise surgery.
The Shadow Mountain Surgical Center is just such an example of our commitment to new technology. A surgical
microscope, equipped with full video support, supplements the excimer laser and
provides a unique experience for both the patient and family. Special viewing
monitors and video facilities allow the family to actually participate in the
excitement of the surgical correction while separating them from the actual
sterile environment. If desired, the staff will be pleased to assist you in the
creation of a custom video of your surgery for later viewing and sharing with
family and friends. Of course, for more privacy, these viewing capabilities can
also be disabled.
Unlike other centers and lasers we are capable of corrections for astigmatism, high
degrees of nearsightedness and farsightedness through a combination of factors including
both the laser itself and special techniques and nomograms developed by Dr
Buzard. The surgery is virtually painless and in distinction to other applications of the excimer
laser by other surgeons, Dr Buzard has developed techniques and procedures which result in
significantly less pain after the procedure and much more rapid visual recovery with most
patients able to return to work and driving with their new vision on the day following
surgery. The VISX Star laser is one of the most advanced lasers in the world with several
second and third generation features and its ability to perform large optical zones with
astigmatic corrections have merited its position as one of the only two excimer lasers
approved for clinical use by the FDA in the United States and the excimer laser with the
largest number of patients treated in the United States. Other important features include
advanced computerized calibration and a unique boost system for the gas contained in the
laser to maintain purity and enhance performance. As always, we are pleased to offer the
latest developments in corneal and refractive surgery at the Buzard Eye Institute and this
facility was first in the state of Nevada.
