Dr. Buzard Acquires the STAR S3 ActiveTrak Excimer Laser System

The greatest level of refractive surgical accuracy available is now at the Buzard Eye Institute

03\19\01 --

Dr. Buzard was the first surgeon in Nevada with the foresight to purchase a STAR Excimer Laser System. In keeping with that tradition of innovation, the Buzard Eye Institute is now home to the very latest instrument in laser technology: The STAR S3 ActiveTrak Excimer Laser system, for better-than-ever laser vision correction.

The VISX Star S3 Excimer Laser is the among the most advanced medical laser in the world, with several third and fourth generation features and boasts the largest number of patients treated in the United States. In fact the VISX laser has several important features not found in the Summit laser, the other laser approved for use in the US. The most important of these features is the ability to correct astigmatism. Features include advanced computerized calibration and a unique boost system for the gas contained in the laser to maintain purity and enhance performance. As always, we are pleased to offer the latest developments in corneal and refractive surgery at the Buzard Eye Institute. We invite you to visit this exciting facility at the Buzard Eye Institute.

Laser vision correction uses an excimer laser to correct imperfect vision, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The excimer laser emits a cool beam of light that gently reshapes the cornea (surface of the eye) to correct vision. Most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better, and some even achieve 20/15 vision.

The STAR S3 ActiveTrak System, which incorporates a unique 3-D eye-tracker, delivers improved laser vision precision. As the name implies, ActiveTrak actively tracks the patient’s eye and guides the laser. ActiveTrak moves the laser with the eye, keeping the laser and the patient’s pupil precisely aligned during the quick procedure.

The ActiveTrak system, unlike older generation laser and tracker systems, does not require patients to endure hours of uncomfortable pupil dilation. This means that most patients will be able to enjoy and appreciate new improved vision right away.

In addition to the eye-tracking system, the laser has other features that also make the LASIK procedure easier and more accurate. With the ActiveTrak’s ability to individualize laser vision correction for each patient, all these new features give us the ability to provide an even higher quality of laser vision correction.
